It has been said that "an army marches on its stomachs" and that "you are what you eat."
If you eat only turnips and potatoes, you never see the fruit on the trees. In a similar
vein, if you only see the present and ignore the past, then you may well miss the future.
If you understand your roots, you have a much better idea of where you are going.
It is the mission or purpose of this web site to preserve and present in
electronic form some of the historical documents and other resources which pertain to
leisure, parks, recreation, and tourism and travel. These items are collected in this
fashion so that future generations may appreciate not only the resources, but also the
roles played by people and institutions responsible for their development and preservation.
This collection consists of images, documents, and links to other web sites. Contributions
are welcomed in the form of electronic submissions or notifications of possible links to
other sites.
It has become increasingly difficult to access many of the books and articles written
during the past fifty years, and even harder to find the original sources on which these
were based. This web site is devoted to making copies of these materials available in
electronic form to those who seek the information for either personal edification or for
scholarly reference.
