Delivered a Keynote Speech to the International Symposium "Mountain Tourism - A Blessing or a Curse?" held during April 16-17, on the occasion of the opening of the Exhibition "Der Berg Ruft" (A Call to the Mountains) International Mountaineering Exhibition (15 April 2000 - 4 November 2001) held in Altenmarkt, Salzburg, Austria.

 


 

1999. Participated in the electronic conference Mountain People, Forests and Trees. April - May 1999, organized by the Mountain Forum, an international network. Presented a case study from the Khumbu region on tourism's impact on mountain forests, and actively participated in the discussions and debates (see N. Butt and M.F. Served as the moderator of the Task Force on "Biosphere Reserves and Protected Areas Network: Fish and Wildlife; Environmental stress; 'Hot spots' and Popular Mountaineering Routes and Bases" and presented recommendations on behalf of the Task Force.
