RPTS 201 Fall 2007 Project
Parks and Recreation service providers make many contributions to communities. Some of these include:
ð Providing programs and services that help meet community goals.
ð Alleviating impacts of societal problems/issues (obesity epidemic).
ð Responding to societal changes (trends in technology, demographic shifts).
As a member of RPTS 201 you are required to:
1) choose a Recreation or Park related
- community goal,
- societal problem/issue, or
- trend impacting communities
related to your town/city or an issue/place important to you.
2) Using at least three sources (one must be from a magazine or newspaper),
ð Define the scope and background of the goal, problem/issue, or trend and its impact on the community (please cite sources).
ð Discuss the role of recreation and park service providers (please rely on sources such as interviews, newspaper articles, program guides).
ð Provide a review of the types of recreation providers involved and the funding sources supporting programs.
ð Discuss any partnerships involved in the issues.
ð Examine the intended outcomes and current outcomes (if any).
ð Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses.
Please rely on a multitude of resources (newspapers and magazine articles, interviews, program booklets).
Your paper should be 3-5 pages typed and double-spaced with at least 12-point font.
You can use any scope of “community” but please define it in your paper.
Your paper should be in third person and written as a professional paper.

Oct. 5 Paper Topic and 2 Sources Due 3 Points on Paper Grade
Oct. 19 Peer Review 2 Participation pts
Oct. 22 Paper Due 7 pts on paper grade
The Paper portion of the Project is worth 10 points of your final grade.
(3 for the Topic and Sources and 7 for the paper)
